The consensus among fans of Skybound’s Transformers series are that its best days are behind it. No doubt, Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, and Mike Spicer set a standard that is hard to replicate. What Dan Mora and returning guest artist Jason Howard have done good work, it doesn’t have the same magic.

The story isn’t quite at the level is was before, but I’m invested. Currently, this book is benefiting from being a part of the overall Energon Universe story. Without that connection, and the hope that the future will hold something truly awesome, what’s currently happening is quite lackluster.

This issue moves the focus to the Elita Prime and her team of Autobots on Cybertron. It seems we will see more of Shockwave and the Cybertron based Decepticons. I like the previous characterization of him, and I hope he retains the same craziness and interactions with Ultra Magnus.

The preview pages that have been released, in terms of art style are more in line with what I want from this series. It’s stylized and while not up to the level or Daniel Warren Johnson or Jorge Corona, for the purposes of this series it works.
