Hasbro Officially Reveals New Studio Series Figures And More on Fan First Friday

I am big Transformers fan. I prefer to collect the Masterpiece figures, but the price tag keeps going up and I am finding myself unwilling to plop down my hard earned cash for a figure that will sit on a shelf while I am at work all day. I understand the rising cost of plastic and the increasingly more complex transformations, but it’s getting to be a bit much. For this reason I am glad that Hasbro has revisited G1 again with the War for Cybertron trilogy. The fact that they have Takara Tomy doing the designs means we are getting scaled down versions of Masterpiece figures.

The Masterpiece figures have long been the go to for screen accurate depictions of the bots. The Studio Series line offers a cheaper alternative to the Masterpiece line while giving us pretty faithful renditions of the characters. To date I have not purchased any Studio Series figures, but that will change when the new figures based on the 1984 animated film are released.

When I first heard they were doing this, I thought,”aren’t those just low budget versions of the Masterpiece figures?” Well, yeah, but that’s not a bad thing. These figures offer near perfect versions of the characters from the 1984 movie, while keeping it budget friendly.

Of the characters they have revealed, i am most excited about the Scourge figure. I like my Generations Scourge from years back, but this is a screen accurate version! I have to have it. Other figures coming will be Rodimus, Kup, Grimlock with Wheelie, Cyclonus, Jazz and Blur confirmed. Hopefully we will get every character that appeared in the movie.

Hasbro also revealed the will be releasing a complete set of the live action Constructicons. No more having to hunt down every individual figure.

Coming as a Walmart exclusive, Hasbro will be re-releasing the Titans Return Headmasters.

They also revealed Target releases of Thrust, to complete the coneheads and Runabout. They also revealed some new Micromasters.
