Return Now: To The Age of Apocalypse Legends Wave 2

Looking at comment sections for Age of Apocalypse Legends figures was kind of hit or miss. Some people loved the storyline focused figures(me), but a lot of people didn’t care for the designs. They are a product of the time. The original story happened in 94-95, so it’s to be expected that they might not resonate with everyone.

I loved the storyline when I was a kid. I still enjoy it today. As a collector, it never crossed my mind about getting figures based on this story, but now that we are getting them, I don’t want them to stop until we get figures of every character, from every book. But until we do, the characters they are giving us are pretty great.

Sabretooth

In the first wave we received Wild Child. By himself, he’s not that impressive. In the Astonishing X-men series, he is treated as a sort of pet to Sabretooth. So, when we didn’t receive Sabretooth in the first wave, everyone hoped he would come eventually in a future wave. And here he is.

Rogue

Not crazy about this facial expression. In general, i think if you are going to put a neutral head on an action figure, you need to include an alternate expressive head sculpt. At least they included additional hands.

Magneto

Magneto is getting two head sculpts. That should be standard when it comes to him. He is seen just as often without his helmet as he is with it on.

Legion

Has there ever been a Legion figure released before. Certainly not in my time collecting. Maybe in the ToyBiz days. At first glance, you’re probably wondering what he’s wearing. This may be spoilers if you have read the story from almost 30 years ago, but he manifested a new power and sent himself and several X-men to the past. He was amnesiac and in a hospital. Those are the hospital clothes he was wearing before he caused the death of his own father, spurring the events of Age of Apocalypse.

Iceman

During the Age of Apocalypse, Iceman spent most of the time iced up. He also for the most part took on some odd forms that i didn’t think they would be able to replicate in figure form without it looking like that terrible Spider-man 3 Sandman BAF. When he made an appearance at the end of Astonishing X-men(he was primarily active in Amazing X-men) he was in this form. Not sure why he had the nouth covered throughout the story, but it’s a unique look that set him apart from his traditional look.

Shadowcat

Not sure if this is my favorite or second favorite figure of this wave, but either way I am excited for this figure. The Generation Next book was probably the most tragic of the stories put forward in this event. I mean the whole team died aside from the teachers! Shadowcat survived to be unceremoniously and unintentionally by her husband Colossus. Her costume is one of the ones that does not look dated at all. It is actually similar to what Lady Mastermind usually wears.

Cyclops

The book Factor X was probably my second favorite behind Astonishing X-men. It followed the Summers brothers, Beast, the Guthries and the Bedlam Brothers. It focused on them being the enforcers of Apocalypse. They were the elite. And Cyclops was first among them. His design with the one eye and the gauntlet on one arm was just perfect. This is the other figure I’m looking forward to.

Colossus

Colossus was a perfect choice for a BAF. In the story he was a pretty big dude, and this figure looks to be appropriately large.

When you look at these images, you see the phrase digital render shown, final product may vary. Obviously the final versions won’t look this perfect, but if they are even 80 percent of what we see here, i’ll be satisfied. The previous wave saw some figures pegwarming(mostly Weapon X), but recently X-man and Wild Child have been sighted at Ross for 9.99. I don’t think this will pegwarm, but you never know. What i do know, is that i will be getting this wave in entirety. These are now up for preorder on Entertainment Earth and other sites. Click the image below to preorder.
