Going into House of X, I had high expectations. This was primarily because I knew Hickman was scripting this. In fact, Marvel has handed the entire mutant franchise over to him. After what he did with the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, I truly believed he would craft an amazing epic for the X-men. So far, I am not disappointed.
Spoilers Ahead! Read House of X #2!
Moira was always huge to the X-men. She is the mother of Proteus, surrogate mother to Wolfsbane, she led the Muir Island X-men and until Mystique killed her some years back, kind of the female Professor Xavier sans the powers. House of X #2 introduces a new, interesting wrinkle to her story.
Moira has always been a mutant. A mutant with the power of reincarnation. She retains all knowledge from past lives and is born again and again provided she doesn’t die before her power manifest in puberty. After living multiple lives trying to deal with issues regarding Mutants, including siding with Apocalypse and Magneto, she tries a different tactic and gives Charles a suggestion that has seemingly rewritten the history of the Mutants.
This is what makes House of X a compelling read right now. It doesn’t completely abandon the past, as everything we have seen previously happened, but in this new life Moira has changed the course they were previously on and steered it into something new and exciting. I am really glad this series is releasing every other week, because I would hate to wait a month to get the next installment. You should definitely add this book to your pull list.
