When it comes to Grimlock figures, they are usually pretty hard to get wrong. It’s a transforming, robotic dinosaur. Grimlock has had a lot of figures released over the years and they have all been pretty good. This Power of the Primes version is okay, but it has its issues.
The dino mode is mostly good. The head is G1 accurate and that is a welcome sight. The only area that looks poorly designed is the legs and tail. Well, maybe not poorly designed, but an unfortunate side effect of him being a combiner.Â
The transformation is fairly simple for a Voyager class figure. As with most Grimlock figures, the legs in dino mode become the arms and the tail becomes the legs. The legs seem a little stumpy and the knees are too high.
You can pose him decently despite the lack of ankles.
Grimlock comes with not one weapon. Seriously not even a lousy blaster or even a sword. There are accessories in the box like the feet for Volcanicus and the Enigma of Combination. If you have some Prime Masters laying around you can use those I suppose.
Grimlock is the central figure of Volcanicus, a combiner formed of the Dinobots. I remember avoiding the Combiner Wars figures for a reason and now I remember why. In combined mode it is kind of a floppy mess. I’ll display my Dinobots individually.
Despite its faults, this is a pretty decent figure. I primarily only bought it to finish Volcanicus. For my Dinobots display though I will probably use the Fall of Cybertron version. If you are still hunting for this figure, head to Entertainment Earth to order yours now.Click the image below for Grimlockand other Power of the Primes figures.
