My kids and I are big fans of the Netflix Voltron series. It’s made by the same studio that did Avatar and Legend of Korra, so you know the animation and story is top notch. This series was not the first though. Do you remember the classic 80’s Voltron show? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Following last year’s great 16 inch Voltron set, Playmates has released a classic version that harkens back to the original show. Strangely, I found this guy  on clearance at Target for 20 bucks. I don’t think it has even been out for a couple of months and it’s already being discounted.

This is an awesome collectible! I almost feel bad for opening it. Almost. It is quite a large toy and has a premium feel to it despite the price tag.

The lion mode doesn’t feature a lot of articulation, but it honestly doesn’t need much. The wings on the back can be flipped and splayed for flying poses.

The mode I will have him in primarily (once I get all the lions) will be torso mode. Once you have him in this mode, the sounds change. I think there is something in legs that changes it when straightened out.

What’s awesome about this figure is that it is compatible with the Legendary Defender lions. So, if you have lions from either set, you can plug them in and it will still work. The Black Lion normally retails for $29.99 but you may be able to find him for less as most Target stores are clearing out the Legendary Defender lions and I think they may be getting clearance priced unintentionally. If you do get one, you may find that it is a little difficult to find the limbs, seeing as they are priced pretty cheap. Head over to Entertainment Earth to get all 4 of the other lions.
