The Age of Apocalypse X-men storyline that took over Marvel during the summer of 1995 is probably my favorite X-men period of all time. It gave a fresh perspective on these characters in a world without Xavier. It introduced a lot of awesome versions of characters, some, who are still active today in comics. One of my favorites who is still around is Blink.
Blink first appeared prior to Age of Apocalypse in the Phalanx Covenant story in Uncanny X-men #317 as one of the young mutants captured by the Phalanx as an attempt to learn how to assimilate mutants. She ends up saving her fellow hostages by ‘blinking’ herself and their captor, Harvest, out of existence. This is where her 616 story ended for a time.
The storyline this figure draws its design from is the Age of Apocalypse. Most of the designs from this period are pretty great and this version of Blink is the one that comes to mind when I think of her.
She comes with a few accessories, one of which seems to be made with toy photography in mind. The first is a pair of her javelins that she uses as weapons as well as a means to throw her power around. The second is a portal to simulate her ‘blinking’ portals. This is awesome. This gives me high hopes for the upcoming Nightcrawler figure.
Blink is one of my favorite characters from the Age of Apocalypse, and I am happy to finally have this in my collection. Hopefully, this is the first of many figures we will be getting from Hasbro based on the Age of Apocalypse.
This wave is showing up in stores now. I found Blink at a Walmart here in Austin, but the wave has been popping up at Target, Walgreens and Best Buy. It is also up for preorder on Entertainment Earth. Blink is a definite must buy for any X-men fan.
