As a general rule, i only buy one of a figure. I don’t really care about keeping figures in packaging because these things are meant to enjoyed, so i don’t need a double to resell later. Sometimes though, improvements are made to a figure i have that make a new purchase seem like a legit purchase. Archangel was the first Marvel Legends figure i ever purchased. It used the Bucky Cap mold then, and it still does now with some much needed improvements.Â
The first thing you notice with this new version is the lighter paint scheme. While the original used a paint darker paint deco reminiscent of the Jim Lee era, the new version is colored lighter more like he appeared in X-factor.
The wings are infinitely better this time around as well. The mold for the wings is the same, but now it is using the more metallic SDCC version. The old set, while nice, were much to dull. The new wings also peg into the back of the figure more securely.
One of the issues with the original was the hands. Since it used the Bucky Cap mold, it came with one hand to grip a knife and one to grip a gun. It was an oversight since they made sure to remove the cuffs on the calves. The new hands are fist and look much better for flying poses. The feet are also new. They look less like boots and more like comic feet.
As far as accessories, in addition to the head it is initially packaged with, it has four different head sculpts. Two are just repainted Adam Warlock and Magus heads and the other is a repainted Blizzard head. The Blizzard repaint is made to look like he did before he revealed his identity to X-factor when he was a Horseman of Apocalypse.
Speaking of Apocalypse, as a bonus this figure comes with an alternate claw hand for your Apocalypse BAF. I like that Hasbro has been doing this type of thing. We saw this previously with the new Onslaught head that came with Rogue a year or so ago.
I won’t make a habit of re-purchasing figures i already have, but when they make updates to modernize a figure like this, it’s worth a new purchase. This figure is now hitting Gamestop stores and online retailers. Head to Entertainment Earth to order yours now.
