Some people may not like it, but in recent years Hasbro has been rereleasing certain figures with slight upgrades or paint jobs. We’ve seen this with the Grout Evolution Pack, Ares and to an extent, Black Bolt, Dormammu and Doctor Voodoo. In some cases its no big deal. I wasn’t collecting Legends figures when the original Ares was released as a BAF so it was cool tyo be able to get that. In others it is a little frustrating. For example, Black Bolt and other previous SDCC exclusives being released at mass retail.
When these are rereleased like this, you have to ask yourself is it worth it to buy a figure I already have for a few minor upgrades or a new paint job. I already had the previous Thanos figure and I thought I was satisfied with it. That was, until I saw the new version with the Infinity Gauntlet!
This new version comes with a darker paint job on the face sculpt and a brighter, more detailed paint job. Though they both sport his modern look, the new paint job gives the new one a more classic feel.
I like the alternate non-smiling face. It fits more with what I think of his personality. The Gauntlet is easily removable so you can his normal open hand on. In case you are wondering, it does fit on the old figure as well.
Did I need to get this figure? No, I could have searched eBay for someone selling just the Infinity Gauntlet, but the new paint job feels like a worthwhile upgrade. Check your local Wal-Mart now to find yours.
