You see it in sports all the time. A high profile player takes his talents to a new team for a fresh start and new opportunities. It doesn’t happen often in comics, but it does. Kick Ass is moving to Image Comics after a successful run on Marvel’s Icon imprint for creator owned properties.
The bestselling trade paperback collections of the hit comic book series, KICK-ASS by comic book legends Mark Millar (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, HIT-GIRL) and artist John Romita Jr., will hit stores this February 2018—just in time for the February 10th anniversary of the series.
A new ongoing monthly KICK-ASS comic by the series’ original creative team will launch concurrently with KICK-ASS: THE DAVE LIZEWSKI YEARS, VOL. 1-4 trade paperbacks all hitting stores from Image Comics. Two weeks later, superstar character Hit-Girl also gets her own monthly series from the creative team of Mark Millar and Ricardo Ortiz.
It should be pointed out that this is not a reboot of the original series, but a continuation of a sort. Millar has said that he envisioned Kick Ass to be a legacy character. This means that it is not replacing Dave, but telling a new story with a new character with the unifying theme being an ordinary person takes up a mantle to make their immediate surroundings better. That is a story that transcends all demographics. I look forward to reading this new story February 14th.
